SF who missed ‘Judge-Correa’, signed a two-year, $36 million contract with an outfielder with a ‘1-year gap’

The San Francisco Giants succeeded in signing another outfielder following Mitch Haniger.

San Francisco announced a two-year, $36 million contract with Michael Conforto through their official website on the 7th (Korean time).토토 Conforto is slated to make $18 million each in 2023 and 2024, and can run an opt-out if he gets 350 plate appearances this season.

Confoto began his professional career with the New York Mets as a prospect with the 10th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2014 draft. Afterwards, he made his debut straight away in 2015, and had a batting average of 0.255, 132 homers, 366 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.824 until the 2021 season. In 2017, he was also selected as an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Initially, it seemed that he would accept a qualifying offer after the end of the 2021 season, but he declined and went to the market as a free agent. However, he could not find a new team, and to make matters worse, a shoulder injury overlapped. In the end, he underwent shoulder surgery in April of last year, and finished the season as it was.

San Francisco has been eyeing Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa this offseason. However, Judge returned to the New York Yankees, and Correa’s contract was canceled due to medical tests.

San Francisco fans were angry, saying that Conforto was also a player with health problems and that he had paid too much money for a player with a one-year hiatus. However, his anger subsided a bit when Correa had problems with the New York Mets medical test.

Conforto is expected to play left field or center field for San Francisco. Haniger will fill right field, with Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater filling the remaining positions. Lamonte Wade Jr. is expected to spend a lot of time at first base following the departure of Brandon Belt.

Meanwhile, San Francisco, whose 40-man roster is full with the signing of Conforto, assigned catcher Austin Winns.
