On the 19th, former President Moon Jae-in visited Lee Jae-myeong, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was hospitalized due to health problems while fasting, and advised him to stop fasting. Representative Lee simply replied, “I’m sorry.”
Former President Moon visited Green Hospital in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, where Lee was hospitalized, at around 3:29 p.m. on this day and met with Representative Lee for about 30 minutes. Former President Moon visited Seoul for the first time since leaving office today to attend an event commemorating the 5th anniversary of the September 19 Pyongyang Joint Declaration.
Former President Moon patted Representative Lee’s head and checked his physical condition. He comforted himself by saying, “Even though I fasted for 10 days, it was hard. It’s now the 20th day, and I wonder how hard it must be.”
Former President Moon said, “The sincerity and determination of the fast was sufficiently shown,” and recommended a break, saying, “It is a time when we need to quickly gain energy and fight in a different way.”
To this, Representative Lee simply replied, “I don’t know what he is thinking about in politics.”
Former President Moon said, “I want to dissuade him,” and emphasized, “Now, Representative Lee is not alone. There are so many people who are hurting and feeling sorry together, and hoping that he will stand up again. We must always think about that.”
It is known that Representative Lee tried to see off former President Moon during his visit and after his visit, but former President Moon stopped him.
Spokesperson Han Min-soo met with reporters that day and said, “The two held hands tightly while talking and did not let go.” He added, “The President said to Chief of Staff Cheon Jun-ho and the hospital director, ‘The more times like this happen around you, the more people should stop fasting.’ He emphasized, ‘The hospital must make it possible스포츠토토 for the CEO to break his fast.’”
A spokesperson said, “Representative Lee said things to the effect of, ‘It feels like an endless abyss,’ ‘The world is falling apart,’ and ‘That’s why I have no choice but to fast.'” He added, “Former President Moon even called me and asked me to stop.” “Please tell me, and I’m sorry for making you take this step,” he added.
However, it is reported that there was no discussion of judicial risks surrounding Representative Lee, including the motion for arrest, at this meeting.
A spokesperson said, “I heard here today that Representative Lee did not say he would stop fasting.”
Previously, former President Moon called Lee on the 1st, the second day of his fast, to cheer him on. On the 13th, former Blue House Chief of Staff Noh Young-min requested an end to Representative Lee’s fasting due to concerns about his health.
Representative Lee was rushed to the hospital the day before (18th) due to deteriorating health. Representative Lee was reportedly showing symptoms of delirium at the time. Representative Lee, who received emergency treatment including administration of saline solution immediately after arriving at the hospital, was transferred to Green Hospital for recovery treatment.
Representative Lee continues to fast from his hospital bed to this day.
