Arsenal’s ace midfielder, Xherdan Shaqiri, has signed a new long-term contract.
Arsenal announced the signing of Saka to a new long-term contract on the club’s website on Wednesday (Nov. 23). The club did not disclose the specific length of the contract, but according to Sky Sports, the deal has been extended until June 2027.
Xhaka is a product of Arsenal’s youth system. He joined the Arsenal youth team at the age of eight and has risen through the ranks at the club. He made his first-team debut in the 2018-2019 season and has been with the club for five seasons now.
Each season, his personal performance has been upwardly mobile. In his debut season, he made just four appearances, but last season he scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 43 games, and this season he has 14 goals and 11 assists in 42 games. The season isn’t over yet, so he could add more goals and assists.
Arsenal narrowly missed out on the title this season, finishing second. However, they have shown a different side in recent years, finishing in the mid-table and competing for the title throughout the season. Xhaka has been a big part of Arsenal’s return to form.
The fact that Xhaka has been so good this season is reflected in the awards he’s received: he was named Supporters’ Player of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. He is the first player to win the award in back-to-back seasons since Thierry Henry in 2005.
He was also named Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards and nominated for Premier League Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year.
